There was no HR at our company. It's a five person firm. I discussed it at great length with the other partner. He told me he would not get involved.
The AICPA code of professional conducts reads as follows.
.05 102-4—Subordination of judgment by a member.
If, after discussing his or her concerns with the appropriate person(s) in the organization, the member concludes that appropriate action was not taken, he or she should consider his or her continuing relationship with the employer.
I graduated from college three years ago, and this was a very hot topic at the time. It was impressed upon us that doing anything other than resigning under the circumstances would place our own licensure at risk. There is no appropriate authority to contact before a crime is committed.
I contacted a lawyer when they wanted me to sign a release, but I only questioned him about my ability to collect unemployment. He told me they would have to be crazy to fight it. I guess I need to go back to him and inquire about this issue.
