$500 No Seatbelt Ticket

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: CA-Los Angeles

I got a ticket on Jan 5th, 09 for VC 27315 (no seatbelt). The officer said I will receive a notice. Well today I received in the mail, a yellow, a notice failure to appear. It says to pay $805.00, and if I pay it in 10 days to take off $300 from 1214.1 P.C.

How can a seatbelt ticket ticket be $500? Any idea what to do?

I suggest you pay the fine off within 10 days.

The 27315 charge was likely $76 or thereabouts originally (per the 2009 bail and fine schedule). The additional funds are likely penalties for failing to appear and the waived $300 is possibly what a collection agency would collect if they had to go after you.

You can always call the courthouse or go down there and ask for a breakdown of the costs.

Breakdown in the costs... assuming this is your first seatbelt ticket...

The base fine for not wearing the seatbelt $20 +PA's, in LA, about $90

Now, when you fail to appear, they add a charge of 40508 which carries a base fine of $75 and a $300 civil assessment, which will bring your total to $805.00.
