Default Recorded a Conversation at Work

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Virginia
I used a lapel recording device to record a conversation between myself and my supervisor. I wanted to take this recording to his boss to prove that my supervisor was speaking to me in a condescending way. Is this legal in Virginia?

Is it legal? Yeah, it's legal. The state won't charge you with a crime and throw you in jail for it.

Does this mean you're free to go ahead with no repercussion? No, it doesn't. Just because the law permits it doesn't mean the employer has to allow it, and it doesn't mean that you can't be fired for taping your supervisor without permission.

And what good do you think it's going to do? Talking to you in a condescending manner isn't even remotely illegal. Do you really think such a tape recording is going to do any good? That his boss is going to chastise him for being condescending? And if the boss does, what do you think the manager's reaction is going to be?
