I've been dealing with this thing for two years. My case is really rare though, and still ongoing, so I can't go into detail.

What have I learned though is this: Having to get a lawyer of my own to protect my interests....I learned that since I have a permanent injury and can expect a lifetime of medical care related to it: It's best to have an attorney.

Example: The settlement for my case should include the costs of lifetime gym membership (prescribed); prescribed medications; care for the herniated disc; it should cover the costs of the bone density tests and x-rays on my herniated disc and fractured bone.

So obviously, a settlement of something like $5,000 is NOT going to cover those costs.

That's where a lawyer comes in. Sure, 30% sounds like a lot....but someone will be looking out for my interests and making sure I get the amount that I should get.

Remember, the other party wants to settle as cheaply as possible.
