My question involves a roommate in the State of: Oregon
Ok, so I just wondered if I can get your opinions on this...
I'm British, on a non immigrant visa, and was due to move into an apartment with a friend. In fact, I said to her in an email that I would definitely be living there for March, April and May.
However, on the day I am due to move in, she calls to tell me that she has something to tell me, that she smokes way more pot than I think she does.
I then refused to move in (I spend one night there, don't go back) and explain to her that it's because if I get caught in a house with illegal drugs that for me it is a deportable offence- even though it's only minor for a US citizen.
Now she is filing a claim against me for the rent money for March, April and May, on the basis of an "implied promise". I have a voicemail from her admitting that she smokes pot in the apartment. And I never signed a lease. Does she have a leg to stand on? I can't see how she would have, going and standing in front of a judge admitting to smoking pot in the apartment? But apparently she thinks she has a good case!
