My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
My daughter was caught a year ago for shoplifting at the age of 16, she did her probation time and was cleared with nothing on her record. Two weeks ago at age 17 she was caught again and now has to go to court next week. I believe the state of Mi charges 17yr olds as adults and thats why she will go to the court. I was told just yesterday to get an attorney and I called a few places today and they need 800$ for retainer fees. I dont have 800$ for one and I am also leaving for work out of town until Monday and her court date is Tuesday. What do I do, and does she need to plea not guilty without an attorney? What is going to happen> She is really a good kid and I am at a loss of what to do.
