My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Virginia
I just moved out of a house I had lived in for 1 year. It is a 4 bedroom house with a created 5th bedroom without a closet.
Over the course of one year the property manager only provided one copy of the utility bill, which we divided five ways and paid him. for the rest of the year he claimed that he didn't have a copy to send but wanted money anyway. So each month I would pay what he asked but kept asking him to please bring the statement by so we could see what we owed him.
Now that I have moved out I agreed to meet with him to get my deposit money back. That is when he provided a huge stack of statements claiming that the deposit money would be eaten up by the extra amount that wasn't paid each month. This is just one more example of his sleazy style of managing the property.
Advice on how I can recover my deposit would be appreciated. Thanks.
