My question involves insurance law for the state of: NJ
Ok, to start I off I want to say that I'm 15, getting my driver's permit in June, and my car which I will be talking about is in my dad's name.
I want to know how the laws work in NJ as for "coverage" of drivers. I was speaking to an insurance agent in NY about classic car insurance. According to the policy, you must be 25 to drive the vehicle, but the agent was telling me that NYS law overrides that by saying ANYONE who drives the car is covered. His example was if his 4 year old daughter got his keys and drove off and hit someone he'd be covered for liability AND collision. That got me thinking if it's the same in NJ.
We have 3 antique cars in the family and they are all insured under collector car insurance. 1 of which is mine. Now I want to be able to drive this car without issues. It was given to me by my grandma when she passed away along with another vehicle I'll be driving as my primary car. I just want to be able to enjoy the car and drive it as we have in the past, but with me driving.
Is there the same rules in NJ as NY? Something similiar that'll allow me to drive the car?
I don't want to change to regular insurance because first off I pay <$100 per year, second, I have an "agreed value" on the car much higher than blue book value. A 1972 Plymouth Satellite Station wagon is not worth much to many people, but as a collector vehicle it's worth alot more than the ~$500 book value due to age. It's insured for what it's worth as a colector car. (Currently insured for ~$10k I think)
Thanks.
