Default How Can a Misdemeanor Become an Infraction

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

I was arrested for Petty Theft (stole $30 worth) and told to show up in the police station in ten days for my mug shot/fingerprints, and that I would later go to court. However, I was wondering if it was possible to drop the charge to an infraction, and if so how can I do it?

Are you having to pay restitution to the company you stole from? Also were you informed that you would be no longer welcome at that store as well as any if any nationwide?

This just recently happened to me as well. But I paid the restitution of $250 over a $30 item to the company/banned nationwide from the store chain, and 5 months later, Im being summoned to court and told to report to a police station for fingerprinting.

So honestly its really weird how the same situations have different turnouts, but they still end up in the same predicament

Hire a lawyer or a legal aid,see if they can lower the misdeamanor to an infraction. You should also ask about a diversion program.
