Question 14 Year Old Minor Charged with Possession of Marijuana and Paraphernalia

My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York

My 14 year old son was caught with a small amount of Marijuana and bowl while at School. For this he was suspended for 2-1/2 months, but is able to get tutoring for 2 hours a day at the Schools administration building. 3 weeks later we received a voice mail from the local PD that we need to contact them back about a juvenile appearance ticket.

    1. He has never been in trouble before.
    2. Should I get a lawyer?
    3. What's the worst that is/going to happen?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Whenever you are talking about a child and drugs in school, the answer to the question of "do we need an attorney" is ALWAYS yes.
