    Default Shoplifting in Texas

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
Recently I was apprehended shoplifting (my child was with me please don't judge) the total was less the $100 but more then $50. I have never done anything like this before and am very scared of the out come. Our house has been going through some hard times with a death in the family and another one very sick and not sure if they will make it. Along with us all being sick and my baby getting better we decided to go out and then the mistake was made. I really need some advise on what I should do at this point.

You should get an attorney to help negotiate your punishment. As a first offender, you may be eligible for a diversion program, which would allow you to make restitution, pay a hefty fine, attend shoplifting prevention classes and be placed on probation.

If you cannot afford private counsel, show up for court, plead Not Guilty, and ask for a public defender.
