    Default WA Forced to Work if Sick

    My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: WA

    Our office instituted a new rule, if an employee calls out sick, they need to find someone to fill their spot. They distributed a list with every one else's phone number.

    If you cant find someone to fill your shift, the sick person is to show up to work.

    Is this legal?

    Yes, it's legal for your employer to require that you find someone to fill your spot if you call in sick & if you can't find someone & don't show up for work, you can be disciplined as your employer sees fit. (unless you have a binding employment contract to the contrary)

    I'm not saying it is good business practice or fair - just not illegal.

    What you describe is crapola, but legal.

    My concern is however, it is a very BAD business practice to share private information with other employees. No one has any business having another employees #.
