My question involves restraining orders in the State of: Michigan
I was served a personal protection order by an old female roommate last year. In my opinion and in the opinion of witnesses the PPO is bogus because she lied and distorted information. Anyway. It is now expired and I am seeking a permit to purchase a pistol. I have seen state laws that say once it expired i was free to purchase a firearm. (MCL 28.422) However instead of being issued the permit it is currently being reviewed by the Sheriffs Office and they cannot tell me when the permit will be reviewed. Its been over a week now and I haven't heard anything. I was just wondering if I could be legally rejected for this permit. Apparently the Sheriff has final say on whether or not to issue the permit, even though the laws says I cannot be stopped from obtaining the permit. Can he legally do that? I have never been arrested, am employed, in school, and am a responsible citizen and gun owner. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks
