My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Jersey
The other day my friend picked me up from my house to drop me off at the train station. On the way to the station he asked me to purchase some rolling papers from a gas station. I went and bought the papers for him and we stopped by an empty lot and agreed to smoke with him. We were trying out marijuana and were rolling joints for the first time. We rolled 2 joints and tried lighting them but we were unable to smoke it. We gave up and drove off. On the way to the train station, a police car was driving behind us so the driver gave me the burnt roach and I tried to hide it in my laptop in a hurry. I grabbed the lighter and paper and put them in my pocket. The officer pulled us over and smelt the marijuana and asked if we had anything on us. My friend gave up the other roach and I pulled the one out of my laptop, handing them the roach I hid and the papers, fully cooperating with the officers. I ended up getting charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and hindering with apprehension of evidence I think. I'm 16 years old and this is my first time getting in trouble with the law.
I am already getting a lawyer for this case and I was wondering how likely the charges will get dropped. Also will taking a drug test a week after the incident showing that I tested negative for marijuana be very helpful in court and will this be counted as 3 misdemeanor charges?
thank you
