My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: TX.
I bought a vehicle in LA in 2005 but now live in TX and have since September of 2005. I ended up relocating to TX due to hurricane Katrina and the vehicle is registered in TX. The bank in LA is a known predatory bank and has a very bad reputation with respect to consumers, as they do high risk auto loans and basically treat the customers very badly even if the customer has paid their payments.
According to my car note payment book and loan contract, I have made the last payment on the vehicle. I now need to get my title but am getting the run around from the bank. I cannot get a straight answer on if the car is paid off or not--the last page of the payment book states to call the bank for a final payoff amount.
What are my options? What vehicle registration office can I go through to get my title? Should I just hire a lawyer to deal with these people? From some of the research that I have been doing on the internet from other customers, they have been known to try and tack on "fees" at the end of their car loans and if people refuse to pay they try and repo. I need some help. Thank you.
