    Default Shoplifting in Indiana

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Indiana

I was caught shoplifting in Indiana, ($90 worth). The store manager took me to a room and wrote down my information, a police officer came by however he didn't take me downtown nor he asked me questions. was I arrested? the store manager told me that I will receive a notice from the court to show up in front of the judge.
    is what happen constitute arrest?
I am over 18 and this is my first offense.
    please help

    more details
I was stopped at the door, before leaving the store and after the cashier register. I was not given a citation or report from the officer and I didn't sign anything.

what will happen next? should I contact a lawyer right away or wait maybe the store won't press any charges?

I am so embarrassed... It is just not who I am.

    Please please help me

If you get a court date, yes, you were arrested.

Yes, contact an attorney, and do so ASAP. The police were called, that means charges will be pressed.

As a first offender, you may qualify for a diversion program, which would amount to fines, restitution, and a shoplifting prevention class, but would also likely keep this off your record.

well, thank you for your answer, I was hoping to get more answers...

is it possible that the store will never press charges? is it possible that they will send me some civil claim that I have to pay?

I really need help here, thank you again

That's why you need an attorney.

I could tell you that it's possible that they'll never press charges, and I could tell you that it's possible that you'll only have to pay a civil demand.

I could also tell you that it's possible for my dog to get up on his hind legs and dance like Fred Astaire.

It won't affect your situation in the slightest. "Possible" means absolutely nothing. You need to prepare yourself for the probable.
