Default Out of Control 16 Year Old in New York

need info on parents rights in new york state...My 16 year old daughter is out of control. Every few months she runs away from home. She doesnt want to attend school or follow any of the household rules,(which I dont feel are to strict.)
Last Sept. I was told by the school that I would be arrested if she didnt start attending school. I work full time with a very strict attendance policy at work and can not miss to make sure she goes to school. She did start attending, but when I came home yesterday from work she was gone once again. I called the school and let them know she had left the home again. They did inform me that it is my resonsibility to make sure she is in school, and did not show up that day.
Tonight the safe house for runawys in our town called me. She has went there numerous times and she is there once again.
From my understanding there is no emancipation law in ny state. What does a parentdo when they are out of options. I have done everything from having her on a pins pettition to mental health counselling. I love my daughter but I dont know where to turn. What options do I have. I dont feel that I should have to go to jail because she doesnt want to follow the rules of society. Please Help!!!!!

I had alot of the same problems with my son, who was later diagnosed as bi-polar.

Is your daughter still in counseling?
If not, she needs to be because that will help you prove that you are trying to get her help.

I know how frustrating it can be when a child keeps skipping school. We used to take our son to school, and walked him to homeroom. Then we went to the Principal's office to verify with them that our son was in class, at least the first one. Of course, as soon as homeroom let out, he'd take off with his friends, but it did help us prove that we tried everything we could.

Another thing that will help is if you ask your daughter's mental health counselor what else you can do. In addition, evry single time that she skips school, or runs away, you need to call and report it to the police. They might tell you that there is nothing they can do, so just ask them to keep some kind of record of your calls. That will also help.
