    Default Walmart Shoplifting - Guilty Until Proven Innocent

    My question involves criminal law for the state of: ca

    i was recently "shoplifting" at walmart, i was using the self checkout and one item did not scan and i did not know so i continued out of the store and was stopped ten feet out of the door they took me in the back room and wrote down my information,, they did not call the police or take my picture. i received a letter in the mail for a civil settlement for $230 and payed in today my question is Will there be any legal consequences? i have not received anything yet about a court date, will i? thanks in advance! PS. the item was $20

    Probably not... but let me ask you this.

    Why were you guilty until proven innocent?

    If you were innocent, why didn't you fight the charge rather than signing the admission document you were presented and DEMAND your day in court?
