Three years ago I was pleaded guilty to misd. possession of 3 pills in Massachusetts. Did my probation & program, and everything seemed fine, except untill now when I was going to apply for citizenship. As I found out recently I should have been removed for such a minor crime (to my surprise). But nobody removed me, ICE never showed up at my home or work.
As my attorney told me if I don't get in any trouble or leave the country or try to apply for citizenship, I should be fine untill my green card expires in several years. He does not believe anyone will show up at my door or work and try to deport me since "they have other more important crap to deal with."
But another shocking fact I have heard is regarding confiscation of business. I am an owner of a small shop. In case of deportation the government also confiscates assets of the deportees and sells them at an auction. Does this happen to everyone who is removable? Or only to felons with violent crimes? Is this something to worry?
Is there any chance ICE will show up at my apt or business? Or will they let me continue my life here in US?
