My daughter (17) is the mother of a 15 month old. The legal father (18) is in the picture. My daughter and grandchild live with me. Neither are working, so my husband and I are not only taking care of the baby financially, but for the most part are caring for the baby as parents.
Both of the baby's parents are willing to allow us some form of 'legality' over the baby to allow them to get on their feet, and grow more responsible for the baby. None of us want them to lose their parental rights, or make this a difficult situation for any. What options are available to us in Florida?
(Neither parent is abusive, neglectful, etc. Just too young for the responsibility and all the caring for the child entails. They have tried very hard but feel overwhelmed by the burden of it all, and need the chance to grow up themselves.)
No state agencies are involved. This is something that we'd like to work out between all of us, and make legally fair for all. Thanks for your help, in advance!
