    Default DCMA and a Website

I am thinking of starting a website/forum dedicated to gaming bots. Although, I am rather scared of what consequences I could have if a company decided to take legal action against me for violations of the DCMA.

A bot is a program that plays a computer game like a person. Usually, and in the case of my site, bots are for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games. These bots are designed to take away the tediousness of grinding (doing the same thing over and over) to higher levels.

Now, there is a case which is in the AZ Courts, Blizzard Entertainment vs MDY. In which, Blizzard (World of Warcraft) charges that MDY violates DCMA law by accessing, reading, and using the memory in which WoW is contained. Although, MDY does not change this information.

My site however, will not be selling bots. But, rather a discussion of programmers and users for all kinds of games.

I am just wondering what legal action could be taken against me if I were to make a site like this and any other helpful info.

If you need anymore information about what the site will be about, I will gladly tell you.

    Thanks in advance.

It isn't illegal to talk about bots.

As long as you're just talking, and not turning them loose on other people's servers, you should be fine.

Well, see that's the thing. I wouldn't be just talking about bots, but rather discussions on how to make bots.

It would be for programmers and botters alike. As I am both and there really aren't many places for people to discuss their ideas with one another.

If it is legal for Amazon.com to sell books with instructions on how to build explosives, and a book on how to molest children and not get caught, I think you are OK to discuss bots.

    It's still just talking.

As DM points out, it's legal to talk about building bombs, too. You just can't go blowing things up willy nilly.
