My husband recently passed away in the state of Missouri. He had Medicare and a supplement insurance. Am I responsible for the balances? I was told I'm not responsible in the state I live in. (Ar.) I have limited income.

You possibly might be under the "doctrine of necessaries" which can make one spouse responsible for the other spouse's medical debts.
Are you saying your husband passed away in Missouri but you are living in Arkansas?
Did you happen to sign anything that you would be responsible for the medical bills?
I didn't sign anything assuming financial liability. We were living entirely on my husband's social security and pension, which has been cut since his death. He had Medicare and a supplement insurance. Normally we could handle the co-pays, but he was in the hospital for months prior to his death. The only things I signed were permissions for certain tests and treatments because he was unable to do so himself.
