    Default Debt Judgement - What Should I Do

    My question involves judgment recovery in the State of:new york
    My account has been frozen due to a judgment for a debt owed for past due rent but it is not the amount owed of 3500.00 it is for 6700.00. But I was not personally served with papers can they put a freeze on my account with out notifying me of it what should I do now to get the freeze of my account I have the 3500.00 dollars that is owed and planned to pay off the debt this week. Please help

    When an account if frozen by a judgment, it can be for up to double the amount of the judgment. That is the reason for the $6700 hold.

    Of course they will not notify you first, if they did then you would have been able to withdraw the money before the judgment hit the account

    My OPINION is that 'Ohmy' is NOT correct. The original debt may have been $3500, but it doesn't take long for that to become $6700 when you add in legal fees, court costs, interest, etc.
    More likely that the judgment value has increased to $6700 owed than for the bank to freeze $6700 (which isn't 'double' anyway).
