Default Trial De Novo - Extend Court Date

My question involves traffic court in the State of: California, Los Angeles Metropolitan Courthouse

I filed an appeal for the guilty judgment on my trial by deceleration. I received a court date of 03/18/2009. But I can't appear in court because I am not going to be in town on that day. What are my options? I tried to extend the date on-line but it said no options are available on-line. Is it even possible to extend a trial de novo date? Or can I go to the court in person and ask the clerk to give me another date? Please help. Thanks!

Yes, go to the clerk of the court and see if they'll move the date on the basis of your request. If you have prepaid tickets (e.g., air or train tickets) documenting your out-of-town travel, take copies with you. They may require a letter or a written motion.
