My question involves a reckless driving ticket from the State of: Colorado

So the other day i was leaving school sitting at a stop sign. I was turning onto the highway to head home. As i accelerated i peeled out due to my tires being on a patch of sand. I continued onward home. The next morning i was called into my schools office. Waiting was a sheriff. He wrote me a ticket for reckless driving. My assistant principle saw me i guess and he reported it. The officer told me that any civilian can make a complaint.

My brother called his friend at the sheriffs office and told him the situation. He said that my AP had to attend my court hearing in order to testify as the witness. If he doesn't show up it will be thrown out. Is this correct?

I was also thinking about hiring a lawyer. Should i do this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
