    Unhappy NICS and Expungement

My question involves expungements or pardons for the state of: Texas

In 1988 I was convicted (misdemeanor) of domestic violence. My soon to be ex-wife was expressing suicidal ideations and I forced her into a pick up truck to go talk to a counselor for her issues, nothing more than that. She filed on me and I was arrested, paid a fine, and that as they say was that.

Now 20 years later I attempt to buy a shotgun and was placed on a "Delay" status which went on for appx. 6 months. I requested and received a copy of my record from DPS as well as the local entity (City Police).

How do I go about finding a good lawyer to have this one little mistake expunged from my record so I will be able to purchase that shotgun and obtain a CHP?

Is it possible to do? Some say yes, some say no. Most all agree to "Lawyer Up". What are some buzz words to look for in order to assure the lawyer is legit in this field? How long does it usually take? What is a fair amount to pay for this service?

    Any help please?

A domestic violence conviction will be enough to ban you from a firearms purchase. I really do not see how you can get around this. You may want to consider karate lessons.

I do not see how clearing this at a state level will help you as it is at the federal level that you are approved for a gun. No matter what that arrest and conviction they will always be there for them to see at the federal level.
