My question involves personal property located in the State of: California
My friend's car was stolen a few months ago and was subsequently recovered by the police. It was impounded after its recovery. His little sisters are trying to get the junkyard to release the car because my friend is currently unreachable in a foreign country. The junkyard is charging them $25 a day for storing the car, but it won't release it to his little sisters because they are not the registered owners. They tried pleading with the junkyard operators by showing insurance information and evidence showing that they live at the same address as my friend to no avail. Any thoughts on what they can do to get it back? Would a letter of authorization from my friend, the registered owner, work assuming they can reach him?
His family doesn't have much money so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
