My question involves traffic court in the State of: North Carolina
Yesterday I went to my scheduled court date to attempt to have my speeding ticket dismissed and found out the state trooper scheduled my ticket along with 20 others on a day when there was no traffic court scheduled. After a bit of courthouse confusion they assembled a prosecutor and I believe a magistrate. We were called into a line and then we were either marched in front of the magistrate or the prosecutor and could either set a new trial date or plead guilty to a lesser charge (if applied). I had to take the entire day off from work as I commute a long distance. This seemed very unfair and the prosecutor definitely pressured me into taking the lesser sentence and even said he my not offer it again and that I would have to go to trial. I understand the trial part I think but he made it sound really criminal. I almost gave in but I think I have a strong case for the officer putting the wrong speed limit on the ticket with photos, etc. I opted for the new court date but this is very unfair since do to the trooper’s mistake I will have to take another day off. Is the kinda of stuff legal?
