    Default I Don't Owe That

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: GA
I lived at an apartment complex with my aunt. I was told I had to sign stating I was over 18 and would follow the rules, same thing my aunt signed 4 years prior. My thing is I had $0. income and was recovering from surgery. That was the only reason I was there. My aunt was purchasing a home and gave her notice closed on her house and lived happily ever after. Why did the apartment complex come after me when my aunt refused to pay for carpet damages? A neighbors apartment flooded and our carpet was ruined. The apartment complex had a new manager that said she didn't see where we had contacting the office with a complaint. I later bought a house and had to pay $894 before I could close on my home. How can this be possible? I was told since my income was 0, I was signing as an adult that understood the rules since I would be there more than 14 days. I was there 2 months.

We don't know, we aren't privie to what your looking at.

I'm guessing they are saying that you are on the lease, but I dont know for sure. We also don't have any way of knowing what you signed. Having 0 income really means nothing if you signed the lease.

Let this be a lesson learned not to sign anything without reading it and understanding it.

What it sounds like is that since you were in recovery with surgury, you may have been coerced into signing a document under duress and there is a way to have that overturned.

Without all the details it would be hard to determine as other posters state.

If it was me, I would go to small claims and file a a lawsuit to recover the $894.00, if i't not too much trouble, and this really bothers you.

Sounds like you signed something that you'll follow the rules, not make yourself an obligor under the lease. Then did the payment take place after the SOL.
