Default Assault from US Expat in Vietnam

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Vietnam

Hello, I don't really know where to turn to. I'm an expat in Vietnam working under contract. I was assaulted by another US expat. He head butted me in my nose, elbowed me in the head and pushed me against a 5 story balcony & attempted to push me off. I went to the police and they went to the house where it happened. As you can imaging, nothing really got done. I was wondering what could I do. This guy has a violent history of assault and verbal abuse. I would like to have him punished. Can anyone please give me any advice?

    Best regards.

Have you spoken to the Vietnamese authorities?

I did, but it was difficult to get my point across. They basically said to shake on it and get along... Interesting philosophy! It is the lunar new year this weekend and things are a bit slow and offices are closed. I'm looking for a translator to go to the police station with me along with the witnesses.

Unless this happened on a US base or an embassy, US law does not apply.

I am afraid that no one here has made it known they are knowledgeable in the area of Vietnamese law. You'll have to continue to muddle through and see where their police take it.
