    Default Adult divorcing parents

I am 24 years old. My biological parents were married and divorced before I was born. My biological mother had custody. I don't want to get into all the nasty gorey details, but the woman is absolutely crazy. She is supposed to be medicated but refuses to take her drugs. She was severely physically and emotionally abusive. I have excluded her from my life, and have been sort of unofficially adopted by another set of parents. My question, is can I divorce my biological mother? I am afraid that if I have children she will pursue grandparental rights. Should something happen to me, she would be in charge of all the important decisions as my next of kin. There are so many variables that I would like to know if it is at all possible that I can Divorce her completely so to make no question that she is not involved in any way shape or form? Also, can my "new parents" legaly adopt me as an adult?
    Thanks.

You need to create an estate plan, designating an appropriate person (who has agreed to take the role) to act as the administrator of your estate. (You should have at least one successor administrator.) You can also designate guardians for your minor children. You should discuss your situation with a local estate planning lawyer, who should be able to draft an appropriate set of documents and help put your concerns to rest.
