My question involves a roommate in the State of: Washington

My roommate, who is on the lease, quit her job and could not pay rent for the month of January. I, on the other hand, am not on the lease and have written her personal checks every month, on the first of the month, for my part of the month's rent. She was given an eviction notice, did not tell me, and I was informed by a letter on our door saying we had to pay up in three days or move out. I immediately secured another apartment, where the landlord is letting me move in early.

She is telling me that we had a verbal agreement that I would stay with her and end out her lease in March. I never agreed to stay neither in writing nor verbally. She is now threatening to take me to small claims court to get my part of next month's rent (due in ten days).

Is this a valid case for small claims? It is my understanding that an eviction notice was negate any contract, verbal or otherwise, because she did not uphold her end of the agreement, being that she would pay her share of the rent.

Please respond ASAP...thanks
