    Default Caught 3 Months Ago

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Massachusetts

Back in October, my sister was caught shoplifting $86 worth of goods from JC Penney. The police were called, but the LP officer canceled the call after waiting over an hour for the police to show. The civil demand arrived and she paid it in full. Yesterday she received a letter from the recovery company saying she was released from any more civil actions. However, she still has not heard from any court about a hearing date. I know no one here is a mind reader, but does anyone have any similar experience or could anyone give any idea on how long a court date would take to arrive by mail? Thank you!

If the police never showed, then she wasn't issued a citation or arrested. That being the case, there were no criminal charges filed or pending charges. She paid the demand so that's pretty much the end of it.

Thank you for your response. I was under the impression that the store could still file criminal charges even though the police responded to the store. Is that incorrect?

Oops! That last reply should read "even though the police did not respond...". Sorry for the mistake!
