My question involves criminal law for the state of: Missouri

Please help me
I am 17 years old and a senior in high school
The other day I attempted shoplifting a dress.
I understand it was the stupidest mistake I’ve ever made, and hopefully will ever make, please spare your criticism. I feel horrible, but I understand that I’ve made this bed and now I must lie in it.
Once the shop owner asked to searched my purse I immediately confessed to everything, I gave her back the dress and asked her please not to call the police, she asked the advice of another shopper, where she said "lock the little bitch up"
I'm a naturally emotion person, so naturally I was in pieces, the store owner called the police and I was arrested, fingerprinted and everything.
Since I am a high school student, they released me to my parents without bail, or without paying any fines, I'm not sure of the technical terms of this.
I was issued a court date for about a month from now.
This is my first offence, never a speeding ticket or anything, and while you may choose to believe me or not this is honestly my first time shoplifting.
I'm very confused now about what I should do and what to expect at the court date, I only know what I’ve seen on TV so I'm not sure how this will exactly happen.
I read that one adult was attempting to get her shoplifting charge changed to a trespassing violation or something along those lines, what are the probabilities of this for me and what would this entail?
Also what should I expect from the court hearing. the police officers were very friendly with me and said that they think the judge is usually very nice when it comes to first offence criminals 17 or younger, and they said basically my options are that he would sentence me to jail time or a fine or let me off, I feel like it’s more complex than that and that there would be more to it.
Please help me, any information you have is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
