Default NY 18-Month "Base Period" and Eligibility

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of New York.

I have been a resident of New York since 6/15/07. June-Dec. 2007, I was compensated as a self-employed (1099) consultant. For all of 2008, I was directly employed full-time by the same company for which I was consulting in the last half of 2007. My job ended 12/31/08, and I'm confused as to if I'm eligible for unemployment benefits, as I wasn't a direct employee for the entire 18 month period prior to being laid off -- only for the last 12 months of that period. I'd like to better understand potential eligibility issues - and any subsequent issues re: computation of benefits - before I apply. Thank you.

If you had income in at least 2 calendar quarters in your base period, you should be eligible.

You can file a claim online.
