My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of New Jersey
I signed a one year lease to rent an apartment. The year ended. I have not signed a new lease (and the landlord has not provided a new one either). The lease stated that the tenant must give 2 months notice to leave. Now that the lease end date has passed, does that still apply? If I understand correctly, since the original lease period is over and no new lease was signed, the agreement effectively becomes a month to month arrangement with no specified end point. So only one month's notice should be required and not two.
Either way would be fine for me, but I am curious about this.
