My question involves child support in the State of: New York
I live in New York State now. When my son was 18 and we lived in NJ his dad talked him into getting emancipated so he didnt have to pay the child support and he moved out. Now 2 years later broke a month of drug rehab and unemployed with no health benefits because he dropped out of college he is living at my house. He is now 20 too young to get Medicaid. I am going broke trying to support him and paying for his meds which are over 400 a month. He is in recovery and doing VERY well but cant find a job. His father contributes nothing. Do I have any legal recourse to take him back to court try to get him UN-emancipated if there is such a thing or can I get some financial help legally from his father to support him? . My son has been to social services no good because he lives with me.
I dont want to hire an attorney if I have no legal grounds to stand on. I have researched this to no avail. Thank-you
