My question involves defamation in the state of: TX
A couple of months ago a co-worker of mine begin spreading rumors another co-worker and I were romantically involved away from work. Her perception is totally based on viewing lunches I deem appropriate. I asked her in a professional manner would she please discontinue the rumors, as the co-worker and I are only friends. She in turn reported to her supervisor that I had spoken with her. This was followed by a meeting with her and her supervisor and me and the woman being accused and our supervisor. The meeting was to try and handle things in a professional manner without getting HR involved. The meeting pretty much ended with the young lady more focused on the fact that I had confronted her with the issue than the issue itself. All parties agreed to just leave it under the bridge and move on. Recently, the co-worker they accuse me of having the relationship with came to work with a black eye! (OMG!) Immediately I was the rumored culprit. My accusers go to HR this time and report that I am the one responsible and make up a story that they heard us arguing in the workplace previously. The co-worker I am assumed of having the relationship with was called in by her supervisor and made aware of the accusations. She totally denounced the accusations against me, in fact she made them aware of recently released disgruntled ex and fight they had. They gave her a number to an assistance hotline. She has apologized to me, but I don't feel as if it's her fault. accusers should bare some blame in defaming my name. HR never contacted me concerning this matter. I am a business professional and don't like being looked at as a woman beater. Any advice on how I should proceed or handle this issue?
