My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: CALIFORNIA
I rent a room for $700 (utilities included about $50) in a private residential home. The lady said she does not rent entire home and does not like roommates using kitchen much.
Her grandson and his wife moved in 2 months ago and now she is asking $50 extra so $700+extra $50 for electric bill. I do not have cable and use my laptop instead of TV.I use microwave, room and bathroom lights and fridge and laundry that is it. I told her 2 extra people means more electricity used, this is a big house. She said "NO! Pay or get out this is my house!" I signed no contract (foolish) but will write one now. What do I do?
My gas, electric, water and cable is $50 now she wants and extra $50 just for electric bill so I am paying $100 for utilities this month. I am not going to pay for other people’s electricity. I find this fundamentally injust.Am I wrong or do I not understand something. She smiles and seems nice until you cross her.
I also help her with small things around the house when she asks and even when she does not and I can’t believe she is acting like this after all I have done.
Please help ,any adive would be great.
