Default Expired Green Card - Will I Be Deported?

    I need help.

I have been married to an american for three years now and was issued a greencard with a two year conditional status. We filed I-698, Application to Adjust Status From Temporary to Permanent Resident, but the papers were returned because the fee changed in transit to INS. My greencard expired last November 22, 2005. We have not resubmitted it since because of financial issues. My concern now is, would I be deported for staying here after my temporary greencard expired? I have no felony charges. I have never been arrested even for a ticket violation.

Please enlighten me. I am scared to death. I rather go home willingly than be deported.

    Thank you.

Consult an immigration lawyer about getting back into lawful status.
