My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Jersey
I worked for a retail company and was fired after being asked several questions.
They asked me why i had purchased so many items of the same type and price. So i told them its bc i have large family and buy much of it for them. Other people at my job admited to selling these items on the street for a profit.
After a while they kept asking other question like have i ever caused the company a loss and me being stupid said yes and accepted to passing off merchandise at the counter when this really never happened. I got nervous and told them i did that a couple times since they kept on pushing the matter. Now i have to pay them back $900 and told me im terminated.
They also accused me of stealing money in different ways like doing fake cash returns and keeping the money. (i have never done this)
Anyways after that all happend i signed a paper stating that i had given some of my friends my discount and that i also passed off merchandise and had to make a payment shedual for $900 every other week. I know i should of never said this since i did not do it but i felt pressured by them and broke in.
Now since i want to collect i doubt they will let me since i admitted to "passing off merchandise" should i contact my previous job and state that the only reason i said i did this was because i felt pressured and told them what they wanted to hear? Or is it best to just pay the $900 and look for a new job since they have my statement which i agreed to before?
Thanks for your help.
PS i am over 21 if it has anything to do with it
EDIT: Also if i try to contact them and tell them that i only said that because i was pressured will it be possible for them to press charges? Also couldn't they decide to press charges even if i do pay the $900?
