Default Roommate Stole Items and Refuses to Pay

My question involves a roommate in the State of: Wisconsin

I had a roommate that basically forced me out of the apartment because I didn't love him back. He wanted me to pay $80/mo until the lease was up and I couldn't afford it, so I told him to take it out of the deposit. My husband and I split and this was our roommate, who took over the apartment when we both left.

I left my items there (as agreed on since my name was still on the lease and I had nowhere else to go) and made arrangements to pick them up at the end of September. Sept 4th or so I got a call from the landlord saying to come get my things, as my roommate had moved out without informing me.

When I got to the apartment, all of my valuable items were missing! I called my roommate who said he didn't know where any of it was. I called the police and they got him to confess to stealing everything. He was ordered to return everything he could and pay me for what he couldn't. When I spoke to my roommate on the phone, he told me I could have the deposit and that he didn't want it. However once the landlords gave it to him, he refuses to hand it over! This part I'm ok with, however, as it is fair since I couldn't pay him the $80/mo.

I've finally come up with a list of everything that was missing (this is a few months later) as I had to ask my ex what he had, go through boxes at my parent's house, and I work 65 hours a week. My problem is I don't have receipts for any of it! I have an appraisal of my diamond ring (which wasn't initially on 'his' list), but that's about it.

My roommate refuses to pay for anything not on the list that I gave him right after I phoned the police (I had 20 minutes to come up with a complete list of everything missing? What bunk!) He paid me $350 for a missing painting and had me sign the list saying that that was all he would pay me for. I added "and other items" to the list before I agreed to sign anything.

What can I do? I asked him to please meet with me so we could get this sorted, and he told me any future correspondence will be strictly through his attorney and any more correspondence on my part would be considered harassment!

I really don't know what to do, and I know this is as clear as mud and VERY wordy, but I'm really in a panic! Please advise!
