My question involves a roommate in the State of: New York City
I am moving out of my apartment to move in with my boyfriend. I signed a year lease with three other roommates. I already got written permission to sublet my portion of the lease to a new person from management, however, my roommates want to charge me a "move-out fee" for allowing me to move out. Are they allowed to do this? Are they allowed to prevent me from subletting if they disagree with it (i.e. if I don't pay them the fee)? They said that because I signed the lease with them, I am obligated to stay for the full year and the reason I should pay them the fee is because they are doing me a favor by letting me move out? Are my legal obligations to the landlord/management and separately to my roommates who I signed the lease with or just to the landlord who said I can sublet my room?
