Default Do I Need Permission from Biological Father to Change Son's Last Name

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Texas
My son is five years old, I have recently gotten married to my husband in July. I was never married to my son's biological father, however his name is on his birth certificate. My son now wants to add my husband's last name to his current last name. If we are not removing the biological father's last name but just adding to it do we still need his permission to add?
