My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: New Mexico.
My boyfriend was pulled over tonight doing 70 in a 45 mph zone on the freeway, which had a lowered speed due to construction. He was cited with a ticket of $250, doubled from $125 because of the construction zone. Unable to afford the ticket, he chose to contest the ticket in court instead. My questions are: What is the likelihood that he will be allowed to go to traffic school instead of pay the fine? Will this remove the ticket from his record? What sort of court costs will he accrue on top of the fine? What are his options if he is not allowed to go to traffic school? How should he present this matter in court? Thank you for your responses, and any other relevant information is greatly appreciated.
