Variations of that have been making the rounds for at least a year.

It takes about a second to see that it's not misdirected mail, it's an outright fraud. Common sense should lead one to ask why a bank director would be using a free e-mail service for business purposes, and there's no Senate Committee Chairman on Banking & Financial Appropriation in Nigeria.

And can anyone tell me how the scammers work this one?
The same way they work all the other ones.

People are greedy and gullible. They latch on to the idea of free money and run with it.

OP understands that they are fraudulent but is interested in how they work. If people respond favorably to the message, there will be more correspondence directed specifically to them in order to build at least somewhat of a relationship.

Eventually, they will be asked to either supply bank information or, in some instances, to provide a credit card number in order to pay an upfront fee to the banking institution holding the funds. This 'fee' usually seems to be about $500.

You sir have insulted my honor! I challenge you to a duel!

But seriously, after checking out the scams on the 419eaters website, & after reading some of the posts on this site from people who have been scammed i can see the need for caution.

    Thanks for your reply. darth

    This.

It's not hard to figure these out. Google will tell you if you ask nicely.

For my part, it's better safe than sorry.

I answer them but when they ask me to send money I tell them I am broke and have no income if they will pay the charges I will split it with them. Then of course they say no but they will pay part. This usually gores on for a couple of months. I never get any money but neither do they it just makes them mad because I am wasting their time. And evetually they tell me I am wasteing their time I laugh and say well you e-mailed me first and it was my time to. Then I never hear from them again. They always ask for money never sent it you will not get anything from them except them asking for more money.
