Angry Medical Bill Paid Now They Want More Money

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Tennessee
I had some medical problems in 2006. Long story short I received all the bills from all the doctors and facilities involved and conscientiously set up payment plans with all involved.
I have slowly but surely paid off all but one bill which I am still paying on with no problems.
One particular bill has resurfaced after over a year of being paid off saying that the insurance preformed an audit and found that they took too large a discount and that I am responsible for the new balance. I also confirmed this story with my Insurance Company.
I am filing a complaint with the Insurance Commission. In the mean time I am wondering: Is it possible that I will have to pay this? Is it legal for them to come after me after the account has been closed for over a year?

Yes, you are responsible for the payment. The Insurance company has, undoubtedly, already taken their payment back from the Physician (by deducting the amount from abother EOB). Trust me when I tell you it's just as frustrating for us as it is for the patient.
