OP: My attitude to sentencing is simple. People think that they can get away with one crime for free; "But it's my first offense!". Some people abuse the apparent special status afforded to minors and first-time offenders by using it as a shield from proper prosecution.
I think an appropriate punishment is one that would deter even first-time offenders.
Would you have stolen that stuff if the punishment was 3 months in jail for a first offense?
For your own good you need to drop the persecution complex before you meet with anyone who has authority over your case, because the attitude is not going to help you. Drop any notion that Walmart treated you unfairly (if someone walked into your house and started stealing your stuff then would you call them Sir?) Don't act like the punishment is unfair because it's a first offense.
You can sit there and think I'm a mean old SOB if you want. That's your choice. Learning to live with the consequences of your choices is all part of growing up. Your first lesson is coming to you courtesy of Walmart LP.
