My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
I have a question regarding HYTA. I received a paper saying how long my HYTA term would be. However, it also said I would have to serve XXX days after completing probation. A small amount of it could be written off through community service during my HYTA probation of a bit over a year. The thing is, this paper makes it seem as if I will have to go to jail even if I successfully complete HYTA. It says, the XXX days (quite a bit of time) shall be served at the end of the probation. It was my understanding that HYTA was a program setup to help young offenders write off their mistakes upon successful completion WITHOUT attending jail.
I'm a little paranoid to post actual times and wording, but this doesn't really make sense to me. Going to jail for a long amount of time after probation is just like delaying the inevitable, and makes it practically pointless to pursue my current dreams.
Maybe it's just worded confusingly, but it really makes no logical sense to grant someone probation so they can return to jail a year later. Are the days that are suppose to be served only if I fail probation? If they aren't I see no reason to continue my schooling.
Thanks for your time.
