My question involves towing laws for the State of:Arizona
My girlfriend's vehicle was towed from her parking spot at the apartment complex that she lives in for being out of registration. The car however is registered, and the sticker had either been stolen, or fallen off, and my girlfriend had been out of town for awhile, visting family. I personally verified the registration through the DMV this afternoon.
My girlfriend and I actually encountered the towing company as they were loading the car up on the truck. I informed that them it was legally registered and that I could go print a substitute registration from my computer in a matter of minutes, they said that I had to talk to management.
I spoke to the manager about it, he said that the tags were not there at the moment and thus he could do nothing but have the vehicle towed. I offered to pay for whatever the towing services fees were, but he declined, and even after I had informed him that my girlfriend had been out of town and that the car was in fact legally registered. They claimed that they had left a sticker on the car to let her know that it would be towed, but there was nothing of the sort that I saw, as usually those stickers tend to be placed clearly on the back window.
While I was talking to management, my girlfriend waited with the towing company and she said that they were purposely trying to hurry up before I returned with/without management.
The next problem I have is that the car was taken FAR outside of our area....close to 25 miles away to an impound lot. I would like more information on what, if any recourse I have in this situation.
